Well, I guess you could say I like music, more like love music when it comes to original, live Texas songwriter type music.

I been turned on to a couple of more new artists and releases lately but I have to tell you about my new toy first. One of my Christmas gifts from Chantel was a Classic XP3 MP3 player. What it is is a 10 gig laptop hard drive with an operating system and so far I have around 3300 songs of various genres, mostly of the songwriter variety stored on there and it is only about ¾ full. It’s about the size of the original Sony Walkman Cassette players; you can use an adapter to play it through your car player and the battery lasts for 11+ hours! A must have if you like taking your music on the go!

Now on to the new music, on the cruise I had the pleasure of making much better friends with John Inmon and had the chance to meet his oh so nice wife Kay. In case you’ve been under a rock, John has been guitarist extraordinaire on the Texas Scene for a long time, as a writer and a sideman for the likes of Rusty Wier and the past decade or so for Jerry Jeff Walker. Now working with Larry Joe Taylor he recently released his solo project “Goodbye Easy Street”. A totally awesome palate for Johns smooth and wonderful textures. From the tittle cut to the final track it is a real treat for the ears.

Also on the cruise I had the chance to meet a few other fine talents such as Barry Horne. Barry’s CD Wildcat Road is awesome, 10 cuts of truly Texas ballads and honky tonk. Life Keeps Flowing is one of my favorite cuts on this CD. I’m not sure where he is distributing this CD but a call to 254-836-9651 will probably shed some light. (And if you’re lucky you’ll get to talk to Doris!) I found out you can get this and other CD's online at www.hombrerecords.com!

There was a lot of music on the cruise besides the main acts on the stages. Barry would join with Ken (forgot the last name!) Bill, who is one half of the Toucan Brothers, and Scott Walker and entertain us on the deck by the aft pool in the afternoon or on the Lido deck under the stars until the sun came up. The good news was we did not go “hungry” for live music for long, the bad news? I hardly had time to play with that new toy!
