My son Chase and I spend a load of time playing online games.
I have been through periods of being addicted for lack of a better
word to Spades, Hearts, Poker and the like at places like Yahoo!
Games, Pogo.com, MSN
Gaming Zone, mplayer.com
to mention a few gaming sites.
The real rush for us the past year or two has been the FPS (First
Person Shooter) games like Unreal Tournament, Quake III, Halflife
and the more cerebral games of Tribes 2 and Age of Empires. Many
of the links on the left will be for sites offering tips, updates
and mods to those games.
We are now into Battle Field 2. A really cool game that I totaly
suck at.... Glad Nam ended before I got sent there and killed!

We have a home network with a Linux server and three computers
sharing a cable connection so at times we host games or have a LAN
frag fest.
I know that many of you are thinking that I must be a really bad
parent to let a kid Chases age play some of these games.
So Pfffftttt to you.
My feeling is that as long as it is controlled, that he realizes
it is a just a GAME, and I am otherwise a good parent and instill
a sense of value, honor & discipline in him, in otherwise do
MY job as the one responsible for bringing him into this world,
he won't go mow down half the 5th grade at school with an Uzi just
because he played Quake.
If I was worried about that then the Archery he has done in Scouting
should give me concern too.
We have both made some pretty good friends with online gaming.
One buddy, Spudman, called me from Wisconsin on that very sad day
September 11, 2001 just to chat about how sad the situation was.
By the way, did you know 9/11/01 was my 45th birthday? Hell of a
day to remember turning 45 huh?
