Well, the change from Meridian to Stephenville went pretty well for Larry Joe's 15 Annual Chili Cook-Off and Texas Music Festival. It didn't feel "Like Home" but no new place does for a while. The bands were great, it was a little heavy on the "Boys from Oklahoma" , Fromholz was of course laid up in the hospital in Waco, Doug Supernaw was "locked" into a deal in Mexico but the bands there did a great job.
I really liked the sets by Michael Hearn & SxSW (Blew the tent away!), Daryl Dodd, Susan Gibson and Slaid Cleaves besides the usual favorites, Davin, Tommy and of course LJ.
The new grounds are more spread out it seemed until I saw it in daylight after the tents were gone, walking it seemed like a zillion miles at night though! The outer spots seemed pretty rustic too, rocks & stumps pretty much every where. The electrical section is such that the RV's/Campers are best able to be hooked up by backing in like a spoke in a wheel, at least in my spot, this led to being quickly being blocked in from all sides by the others that arrived after me.
It will just take a year or two for the folks to get used to the new grounds, the new fires and hot spots and it will feel like home again.
Well all I can say is that LJT's Island Time gets better every year!
The venues, the music and the company were terrific this year. The Beach Party was a really well organized deal (thanks Zack & Clint), Sanza was a nice touch, and would not have been complete without the cops shutting it down. (Boo!)
The amazing Jim Urban did a hell of a job laying out the new Third Coast Studio and the concert there with Larry Joe, Davin James and Keith Sykes was a memory maker for sure.
It was great to see all the good friends but a few were noticeably missing, John & Jan Smith, My fishing buddy Kay and Laughing buddy Al Pratt, Joe & Suzy Dye and Joe Parsons... We missed you guys!
I got my Island Time pictures up at this link so take a look around, swipe any you want but give me credit and a link back please if used on your web pages.
I also added the pictures of the time spent with my family if you want to suffer through those here, if you have not read about the deal we went through with Kelley and her brain tumor it can be found in that area too..
A few mentioned that they read this site often for the "This Day In History" deal (Thanks Shelly) and mentioned that it would be cool if I added the birthdays and anniversaries and stuff of friends. I remembered that The Fishbacks anniversary is August 5th and added that, if you will email me with your dates I will add them too!
Now for a shameless plug... you really ought to visit my newest venture at www.artesanodesigns.com for really cool Texas type jewelry and lifestyle stuff. The LJT charms can be ordered there too!
Well, for me a third coast is any place
that's right. A place where you get the warm & fuzzies
inside, life if good and everything is right with the
world. Your third coast can last for 10 minutes or it
can last a lifetime. You can't actively look for it
though, you just follow your heart and it will find
you.
I guess you can tell I'm from Texas,
I could be living anywhere and I'd still be "from" Texas
and I would still find my third coast. I suppose it's
kinda like you can close your eyes for a fleeting second...
and use your mind to take you anywhere you want to go,
your third coast can follow you anywhere.
I've got to thank a good friend of mine,
Larry Joe Taylor
for helping me be more aware of my very own third
coast.
Inside these pages you will find out
about me along the way. Most of this site is really
just a place for me to hang my bookmarks of stuff I'm
interested in. I'm kind of an eclectic kind of guy,
I like lots of different styles of music but this site
will mostly focus on Texas songwriters, many of whom
are my friends. I am a 1st class geek & nerd, not that
I am really good at much but I dabble at a lot of programing,
website creation and image programs. There will be some
areas about my wonderful family, my wife Chantel, my
daughter Kelley and my son Chase. Buddy the dog and
Snowball the cat may even sneak in every once in a while.
So stick around, watch the site develop,
come back often.
All in all, I'm doing pretty good.
Since I found my 3rd coast.
